Thy Farewell is a 5 piece metal band from Northern California and Southern Oregon. Considered by many to be their own unique blend of death metal and groove, the band looks to create their own sound within the metal world. The band originated in 2018, but fast forward to 2025 the lineup features Jeff Oneill on vocals, Travis Tarrant on guitar, Noah Conklin on drums, Shanon Smith on bass, and Jim Powell on lead guitar. The band also currently is recording their first full length album, due to be released sometime in 2023.
Travis Tarrant
I got my first guitar when I was in 5th grade, but I didnt touch the guitar until I was in 8th grade. I had seen some local bands here play at a theatre in Etna Ca and I was hooked. There was something about the aggression and power of the music. From there, I had learned how to play any kind of metal I could get my hands on. I had formed my own bands in high school and after, having moderate local success. Fast forward to 2018, I linked up with my friend Jeff Oneill and we both decided it was time to try again. Plus, we had always talked about being in a band together. Thus, Thy Farewell was born. Still going strong in 2022.
Noah Conklin
My name is Noah, I am the drummer for Thy Farewell. I live in Northern California. I have been a drummer since I can remember. I grew up in a musical family who play multiple instruments and helped me become the musician I am today. I continue to evolve as a drummer and strive to get better and play awesome music with my Bro's in Thy Farewell!
My name is Jeff. I would say when I was around 11 years old is when music really grabbed ahold of me. I picked up a guitar and learned the fundamentals of drumming, not knowing then how much those instruments would shape my life. At first it was just about making noise and figuring things out, but the more I played, the more I wanted to explore. Rock, blues, punk, reggae.. I dove into all of it, teaching myself the rhythms and styles that spoke to me.
When I was 13, I joined choir. That experience gave me a new perspective on music, teaching me how to use my voice, listen closely to harmonies, and appreciate the power of collective sound. It added another layer to my growing passion and helped shape the way I approached music later on.
By the time I was 17, I found myself drawn to the power of metal, and that’s when I stepped up to the mic. Learning metal vocals was a whole new challenge, but it gave me a way to pour emotion and energy into sound in a way that felt bigger than anything I’d done before.
At 18, I started drumming in the church band. It was a meaningful experience and taught me a lot, but eventually I stepped away from that role out of respectful religious differences, choosing to honor both my own path and the values of the community I had been part of.
Looking back, whether it was guitar riffs in my bedroom, experimenting with reggae grooves, singing in choir, screaming into a mic, or laying down beats in church, music has always been a part of my journey. Music has always been my way of exploring, expressing, and evolving. Playing with Thy Farewell has been great because all the musicians I've played with are very experienced in composing and it makes everything very smooth.
My name is Jim and I have been fascinated by music since I was very young. When all the other kids in my elementary school wanted to be famous athletes when they grew up I wanted to play guitar on the stage. As the “OG” in the band my influences go deep and range from everything from Led Zeppelin to Dying fetus. I have known the bad ass musicians in this band for many years and am proud to play alongside them as their lead guitarist.
I enjoy playing this style of metal because it has a great groove but also gets nasty like a chainsaw enema. I love watching the crowds react to our heavy grooves. See you at a show!
